SUMMARY: The redevelopment of the old Yates Wine Lodge to create a 60-bedroom Premier Inn hotel.
This high-profile Grade II listed building sits directly opposite Newport’s railway station, close to the recently redeveloped market and just a short distance from the new Admiral building.
RHP invested more than £1.4m acquiring the site, clearing asbestos and internal areas. A grant of £450,000 from Newport City Council has also been awarded towards the project.
The main construction contract started early in 2015. Work is now well underway.
It is anticipated that about 100 people will be employed during the redevelopment of the building, which will also create up to 50 permanent jobs in the hotel when finished.
