GREEN LIGHT FOR OFFICE TO RESIDENTIAL CONVERSION IN NEWPORT CITY CENTRE


Richard Hayward Properties has been granted planning permission to convert three floors of empty offices above Tesco Express in Cambrian Road, close to Newport city centre, into six two-bedroom flats.

The Treforest Property Company has owned the property, which is managed by RHP, since 2007, when the ground floor was converted and let to Tesco for an Express convenience store on a 15 year lease.

Now, Newport City Council has granted consent to convert the empty upper floors – a total of 5,330 sq ft - into six self-contained apartments, which are to be rented out.

The mid-terrace building is close to the junction with Bridge Street and Commercial Street in the city’s conservation area in the commercial and retail heart of the city. It is surrounded by a mix of traditional and modern facades.

It is anticipated work on the flats will start imminently with completion due within six months.

Newport is currently undergoing extensive regeneration with RHP undertaking a number of projects including a new 60 bed-Premier Inn hotel and the redevelopment of Olympia House, largely for residential, where the company has already secured Sports Direct as a key tenant.
